  • Stand up for kids

We want to ensure that Congress invests in kids, expands the successful WIC program, and improves access to summer meal programs. Universally, there is recognition that these programs work – and work exceedingly well – to ensure healthy outcomes and greater educational attainment for our nation’s children.

  • Email Your Senator: Do Your Job

Public hearings for Supreme Court nominees are part of our democracy. The hearings are for us – the people – not just for senators. But the right-wing obstructionists in the Senate don’t want democracy for all of us – which is exactly what’s on the line.

  • Stand with Verizon Workers!

We are on strike because we will do whatever it takes to create a better workplace for ourselves and those that follow.

We're standing together to make sure the needs of working families are met, instead of standing by as a handful of individuals get richer and richer.

We're standing together because Verizon has fired, threatened, and intimidated working people at Verizon Wireless who are trying to create a better future for themselves and their families.

We're standing together because we want to earn a living in our own communities instead of moving away from our homes and our families for months at a time. We want good jobs to stay in the United States, not be sent overseas.

We're standing together to make sure that working people at Verizon can not just make a good living, but also have a good life.

Add your name to let Verizon CEO Lowell McAdam know that you stand with us.

  • Tell DNC Chair Wasserman Schultz: Stop protecting the Payday Industry

Florida Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz is fighting for payday lenders in Congress, instead of protecting working families.

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is about to release new rules to rein in the predatory payday industry, whose sky-high interest rates are designed to trap vulnerable people in cycles of debt. But Wasserman Schultz is rallying support in Congress for a new bill that would gut these rules. Why? Maybe it has something to do with the more than $68,000 in campaign contributions she has taken from the payday industry.

  • Stand Up for Health Care

House Republicans, though, continue their assault on our health care. This week, members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee will consider H.R. 4725, a bill that could cut health care services, even for kids.

Your member of Congress sits on the committee that will be reviewing this legislation - fill out the form below to email him or her and urge them to protect our kids’ health care!

This bill would cut the percentage that the federal government provides to states to fund their Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP). It would also restrict states’ ability to use taxes on health care providers such as hospitals and nursing facilities, as well as managed care plans, to help finance state Medicaid programs. This would affect about half of the states and would likely result in damaging cuts to Medicaid.

  • Tell Your Governor: Move Forward with a Strong Clean Power Plan

The Clean Power Plan is the first federal plan to reduce carbon pollution from coal-fired power plants. It’s our best chance at a clean energy economy in the United States, but the Supreme Court just sided with dirty energy companies and temporarily put the brakes on the Clean Power Plan.

While the courts play politics with our planet’s health, it can’t stop climate change and it can’t stop us from fighting for a clean energy economy that puts people and our planet before narrow corporate interests.

Eighteen states, including yours, opposed the Supreme Court’s action to delay the Clean Power Plan. Thank your Governor for standing up for the Clean Power Plan and urge them to move forward with a strong plan for your state.

Under the Clean Power Plan, every state must submit a plan for how they will reduce carbon emissions. Tell your Governor to go forward with a strong plan that prioritizes renewable energy and efficiency, creates good green jobs, and invests in the low-income communities and communities of color hardest hit by climate change.

  • Tell Your Governor: The Supreme Court Can’t Stop the Clean Power Plan

The Clean Power Plan is the first federal plan to reduce carbon pollution from coal-fired power plants. It’s our best chance at a clean energy economy in the United States, but the Supreme Court recently sided with dirty energy companies and temporarily put the brakes on the plan, the court’s last action before the passing of Antonin Scalia.

While the Congress and the courts play politics with our planet’s health, climate change doesn’t stop -- so we won’t stop fighting for a clean energy economy that puts people and our planet before narrow corporate interests.

Under the Clean Power Plan, every state must submit a plan for how they will reduce carbon emissions. Some governors are bound to use the upheaval in the Supreme Court as an excuse to delay reducing pollution in their state. Tell your Governor: every day that we delay action for clean energy, climate change goes unchecked, harming our communities nationwide. Stand on the right side of history and move forward with the Clean Power Plan.

  • Support Budget Priorities for Working Families

Yesterday, President Obama released a budget plan that supports many of our priorities! Now we need Congress to act. Email your Representative today asking them to support programs with years of success helping working families gain economic security.

  • Food on the Table

Child nutrition programs like school breakfast and lunch, summer food programs, and WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) currently feed millions of children with nutritious food to grow and learn. Universally, there is recognition that these programs work – and work exceedingly well – to ensure healthy outcomes and greater educational attainment for our nation’s children.

Use this form to ask Congress to support expanding WIC and summer meals programs.

  • Stand up for kids

This is our best chance at seeing substantial improvements to Child Nutrition programs. We want to ensure that Congress invests in kids, expands the successful WIC program, and improves access to summer meal programs. Universally, there is recognition that these programs work – and work exceedingly well – to ensure healthy outcomes and greater educational attainment for our nation’s children.

Don’t miss this opportunity - email your Senator on the Senate Agriculture Committee today.

  • Support Paid Family Leave in New York

Sign the petition and share why paid leave is important to you.

The Paid Family Leave Insurance Act would provide up to 12 weeks of paid leave to bond with a new child, care for a seriously ill family member, and deal with issues that arise when a family member is called to active military service. The legislation would create a paid family leave insurance benefit and modernize New York’s Temporary Disability Insurance (TDI) program, the critical support system for new mothers physically recovering from childbirth, which is currently frozen at the 1989 rate of $170 per week.

  • Support Tax Credits for Working Families

This is our chance: The tax deal package will reportedly be voted on in the House on Thursday! It is unclear if the bill will pass. Email your member of Congress now to show your support for working families tax credits.

  • Tell the PA GOP to Disinvite Donald Trump as Keynote Speaker

This Friday, December 11, Donald Trump will be the keynote speaker for the Pennsylvania Republican Party. Tickets to the event cost from $1,000 to $10,000.

In light of Trump's recent unconstitutional call to ban all Muslims from entering the United States, we are demanding that the PA GOP rescind their invitation to Trump. If they do not, it means that they support Trump and his outrageous positions.

  • Act now to protect working families

Members need to hear from you today. We are told a deal on corporate tax breaks could be ready as soon as tomorrow. It is unacceptable for Congress to extend tax cuts for corporations while delaying credits for working families. We need Democrats to stand strong and ensure that working families don’t get left behind in any deal.

  • Join the Campaign for Worker's Rights!

Friedrichs v. California Teachers Association is being waged by conservative foundations, including some affiliated with the Koch brothers, to undermine workers’ rights to speak up together through a union.

Thank you for standing up with workers across the country to combat this attack. We will be coordinating letters to the editor, actions around the case hearing (likely in January) and other tactics along the way. Sign up below to be included on the campaign roster.

    Calling Instructions

    1. Call the Congressional switchboard at (202) 224-3121
    2. Press 2 for House of Representatives
    3. Enter your Zip Code
    4. Connect to your Member of Congress
    5. Tell the staff:
      • Hello, my name is _____. I am calling today about the federal budget. My representative should stand up for working families by voting against extreme policy riders from all funding bills and seek the permanent expansion of expiring provisions within the Earned Income Tax Credit. We need an economy that works for all of us, not just the wealthy. If the government were to shut down over controversial policy riders, or fail to make permanent essential provisions in the EITC, millions of families will be in danger of falling into, or deeper into poverty. Don’t play games with our livelihood - vote against extreme policy riders on all budget bills and make the expiring provisions of the EITC and CTC permanent.

  • Help Keep Vets out of Poverty with One Email

Today is Veteran’s Day and we give thanks to the proud men and women who serve in our armed forces. We want to serve them back by ensuring they keep their benefits from the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Child Tax Credit (CTC).

These pro-work tax credits help millions of hard-working Americans - including veterans and their families - make ends meet, go to work, and provide the basics for their children.

Currently about 2 million veterans and military households use the EITC and CTC including 2.6 million children. If critical provisions within these benefits expire, about HALF of these families will lose the support of these working family tax credits.

Email your member of Congress today and tell them to make all provisions of the EITC and CTC permanent.

  • Call Obama Today!

Today USAction in coalition with Public Citizen and other progressive allies are delivering over 800,000 signatures including yours to support an executive order shining a light on the dark money used by government contractors. Call President Obama to reinforce the message: Stop waiting and issue an executive order requiring businesses that get taxpayer dollars to disclose their political spending.

    1. Dial 1-888-894-6720 to reach the White House switchboard. (You may briefly be put on hold or directed to another line. Please be patient!)
    2. When you are connected with a volunteer operator, introduce yourself and then use this short script:
    3. “I’m calling to urge the president to combat Big Money politics by signing an executive order to end secret political spending by government contractors. I want the president to act before the election season is in full swing, and time is running out!”

    4. Let us know how your call went! Leave a comment below to tell us what happened.

  • Tell Speaker Ryan and Chairman Rogers: No Riders in the Budget Process

With budget negotiations moving forward, GOP members want to attach “policy riders” to the final bill to advance their extreme priorities. They want to use these riders to - among other things - weaken our political donation laws, cut roll back financial regulations and oversight and to attack women’s health providers. Speaker Ryan has refused to say if he will allow these types of extreme riders on the budget so we need to get everyone on board to remove these poison pills.

  • You are Not a Number

Congresspeople are presented with numbers all the time. When they hear that if key provisions of the Earned Income Tax Credit expire some 9 million Americans, including 5 million kids, would end up with below poverty income it does not seem real until they hear a story from one of their constituents. Your experience using the EITC to make ends meet, provide for your family, or save for the future are much more moving than numbers.

  • Support Working Families

    To: Senator Manchin, Senator Capito

It’s as American as apple pie – if you work hard and play by the rules, you should be able to make ends meet. That’s not always the case. Even people who work two or three low-wage jobs can find themselves stretching their dollars to put food on the table or gas in the car.

Sometimes working families need extra financial help so they can get by. That’s what the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and the Child Tax Credit (CTC) do. These policies are two of our nation’s strongest tools to promote work and help families build a secure future.

We know that kids do better when their families do better. Research shows children in families who benefit from the EITC or CTC are healthier, do better in school, are more likely to go to college and earn more as adults.

But unless Congress acts in the coming months, millions of hardworking Americans could lose an important piece of their family budgets when critical provisions of the EITC and CTC expire.

    Don't let this happen, Senator!

Fight for working families back in Washington by making these critical provisions in the EITC and CTC permanent this year – so that hardworking families in West Virginia have a better chance to achieve the American dream.

  • Budget Demands

    We need a budget.
A government shutdown will have disastrous effects on our economy. Congress needs to do their job and pass a long term budget bill.

Lift the budget cap; Fair funding for domestic programs
Programs for working families continue to be slashed back due to the budget caps while the Pentagon and defense lobbyists have avoided cuts using their OCO war slush fund. Say no to the GOP budget that cuts domestic spending by almost $5 trillion yet adds $36 billion more to the slush fund than our military leaders say they need for military operations overseas.

Tax Credits for Working Families be made permanent.
The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Child Tax Credit (CTC) lift working families out of poverty. Provisions within the EITC and CTC are due to expire - this deal must include the permanent extension of these provisions.

No limits on Women’s Health Care
Planned Parenthood and many other community health centers provide essential care including cancer screenings, birth control, and nutrition education. We need to stop vilifying abortion providers and ensure all Americans have access to the affordable health care they deserve.

Protect key provisions of Obama Care
The Affordable Care Act is working. More Americans have health insurance than ever before. It is time for Republicans to let go of their grudge and leave the ACA alone.

    Bring Home Offshore Profits
Some of the biggest corporations are hiding enormous sums of cash in offshore banks, taking advantage of a giant tax loophole. One estimate puts the tax bill for these corporations at $600 billion. We need to bring home these profits at the regular tax rate to ensure corporations pay their fair share.

  • Expand Access to Summer Meals!

Right now, summer meals are not reaching enough families. Only 2.8 million kids get summer meals on average while 20.9 million participate in the school lunch program. That leaves 18.1 million children and their families to struggle over the summer.

There are two strong bills in the Senate that have been introduced to expand access to nutritious food during the summer months. We need more Senators to co-sponsor these bills to keep them moving forward.

  • Tell your Member of Congress: Our Kids Deserve Better

This year, Congress needs to reauthorize the Child Nutrition Act, which provides nutritious food to children through the national school lunch program, WIC, summer meals sites, and more. Your member of Congress is in a key position to help this bill along; they sit on the committee that writes the bill.

Please email your member of Congress today and urge them to prioritize the Child Nutrition Reauthorization Bill!

  • Stand Up for Working Families

Tell Senator Stabenow to make big corporations pay what they owe on their offshore profits. Join your neighbors near and far in Michigan by signing this letter to our Senator.

  • No more surprise gifts for Wall Street

    Dear Member of Congress:

We are counting on you to oppose all efforts to use the government funding process to repeal the rules for Wall Street and the financial industry.

Please listen to the people you represent, not the big money lobbyists.

We need to move forward, not backward, on financial reform.

  • Stand with Unions

Sign our petition to Congress. It's a message that we need to spread far and wide: To help restore balance to our economy against anti-worker and anti-union attacks.

Unions benefit all working people — union and nonunion alike — by relentlessly fighting for better wages, healthcare and retirement security for everyone. Not just at the bargaining table, but by fighting for improvements in the federal minimum wage, overtime pay, Medicare, Social Security and more.

  • Extend Critical EITC and CTC Provisions

Congress should be boosting tax credits for hard-working families that help families provide for their children and meet the basics. Tell Congress to stand up for an America that works for all of us, not just the wealthy!

  • Send your Message to Congress

Help us by sending in your empty plate message urging members of Congress to support food security programs for kids.

  • Tell Congress to Pass the FAMILY Act

We need your help. There are proposals in Congress (H.R. 1439/S. 786) called the Family And Medical Insurance Leave (FAMILY) Act that would establish a national paid family and medical leave program modeled on successful programs already in place in California, New Jersey and Rhode Island.

Help celebrate and honor the promise of the FMLA by telling Congress it’s time for the FAMILY Act.

  • Sign a Birthday Card for Medicare

By signing this Medicare birthday card, you can send a clear message to every candidate for President and every member of Congress: instead of phasing out Medicare, we should expand it to everyone in the United States.

  • Senator: Expand Summer Meals Programs

The Summer Meals Act would provide nutritious food for children when school is out at pre-approved sites like local recreation centers, camps, and more. It also provides additional transportation assistance so families can more easily get to a summer meals site. The Stop Child Summer Hunger Act provides EBT cards to families so they can purchase nutritious food during the summer months for their children.

Tell your Senator to ensure that these bills are included in the Child Nutrition Reauthorization bill.

  • Congress: Pass the Raise the Wage Act

The Raise the Wage Act would benefit 35 million workers by gradually raising the minimum wage to $12 by 2020. This will help millions of families put food on the table, pay rent, and give more economic security. Minimum wage workers come in all ages, races, shapes, and sizes. In fact, according to the Economic Policy Institute, there are more workers age 55 and older who would benefit from the increased minimum wage than teenagers.

  • Stop Payday Loan Sharks!

We've had enough of payday, car title, and installment loan sharks in our neighborhoods! Tell the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) to issue rules that will truly put an end to the debt trap and stop predatory loan sharks from attacking our families. Don’t let any of these Sharks off the hook! Add your name and story to the call for the CFPB to go broad and strong in its upcoming rulemaking.

  • Senators Do the Right Thing: Fully Fund WIC

Fully funding this program means not only ensuring critical food for pregnant women, babies, and young children, but also things like additional supports for breastfeeding mothers and streamlining the program by transitioning to electronic benefits.

  • We Remember Your TPP Vote

Sign here to tell the 13 Senators who voted for TPP that we will not forget.

  • Tell Congress to support diplomacy - not war with Iran

We need to tell Congress that we support the impending deal with Iran. The imminent deal will block Iran’s pathways to nuclear weapons, provide for rigorous and unprecedented inspections, and eliminate a major security threat without resorting to war.

  • Tell Your Senators To Co-Sponsor Critical Summer Food Programs Legislation
  • Senator: Co-Sponsor the Healthy Families Act!

36 senators, including Sen. Manchin, voted in favor of the earned sick days budget amendment but have not yet co-sponsored the Healthy Families Act — legislation that would allow workers to earn up to seven earned sick days per year.

Urge Sen. Manchin to co-sponsor the Healthy Families Act today.

  • Senator: Co-Sponsor the Healthy Families Act!

36 senators, including yours, voted in favor of the earned sick days budget amendment but have not yet co-sponsored the Healthy Families Act — legislation that would allow workers to earn up to seven earned sick days per year.

Urge your senator to co-sponsor the Healthy Families Act today.

  • Tell Your Representatives to Prioritize Child Nutrition

The Child Nutrition Act was originally passed in 2010 and will expire on September 30th if not reauthorized by Congress. The act ensures funding for critical programs like WIC, summer meals for kids, reduced price and free lunch and breakfast programs at schools, and more.

Please take action today to ensure that our kids continue to receive nutritious food in and out of school.

  • Tell Obama no TPP

The Senate is voting TODAY whether or not to pulverize the living standards of American workers. They are going to vote to give authority for the President to ?fast-track? a sweeping trade pact with 12 nations in the TPP (Trans-Pacific Partnership).

Sometimes we have to tell our friends that they are wrong. Help us tell President Obama that this deal is a bad deal for workers.

UPDATE: The fast track bill FAILED the Senate! But this will not be the end of the TPP. The GOP and the President are already plotting on how to reintroduce the bill this legislative session. Sign the petition so we are prepared for when the TPP rears its ugly head again.

  • Real Security

Even though we are getting on the right track with our neighbors going back to work, we are winning the fight for better wages and our communities seem to be getting stronger - we know that there might be tough times ahead again. Everyone deserves to have real security.

This is why we need a vibrant social safety net with fully funded programs to support families that struggle from time to time. Sign here if you agree.

  • Tell your Senator to stop Fast Track on TPP!

Please write to your Senator that fast tracking the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement will disadvantage American workers, undermine American food safety, and prevent developing countries from using sensible economic development policies to grow their economies.

  • Tell Congress how you want your money spent!

This Tax Day, tell Congress how you'd like your money spent.

Our security requires investment in education, good jobs, infrastructure, nutrition, health care, affordable housing and other services that provide economic security to our families and a brighter future for our children.

When we spend more than half of our federal discretionary budget on the Pentagon, it starves our real needs and makes us less secure.

Let?s stop pouring money into defense profiteers and look for comprehensive solutions that address the root causes of conflict.

  • Contact your Senator for four more years of CHIP funding!

Although the House of Representatives passed the Medicare Access and Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) Reauthorization Act, it only extends CHIP funding for only two of the four years that was needed.

By signing you support the extension of CHIP for four years, rather than two.

In the letter below, please also share how CHIP has impacted you and your family, so our Senators understand the gravity of the situation.

  • Tell Congress "No" to Fast Tracking TPP!

I'm signing to urge Senator Wyden to oppose Fast Track, also known as Trade Promotion Authority, for the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement.

Congress needs time to debate and amend trade agreements that affect all of us. Fast Tracking the TPP is undemocratic, and I expect Senator Wyden to oppose it. I'll be watching this issue closely in 2015.

  • Ask Senate Democrats for four more years of CHIP funding!
  • Urge President Obama to sign an executive order requiring federal contractors to disclose their political spending.

President Obama recently expressed his support for a constitutional amendment to overturn decisions like Citizens United. In the meantime, there is something very concrete that he can do as president to alleviate one aspect of big money corrupting our elections -- to get us closer to the "better politics" he called for in his State of the Union address.

Corporations that receive government contracts can secretly funnel untold sums to help elect (and re-elect) the very same lawmakers responsible for awarding those contracts.?Families have enough to worry about. The health security of their kids shouldn't be one of them.

The president can -- and should -- sign an executive order requiring federal contractors to disclose their political spending.

  • All workers deserve paid sick leave

President Obama is taking a bold stance for workers everywhere by becoming the first president to endorse paid sick days for all workers.

    This is a big deal.

Do you have President Obama?s Back? Sign our petition to Congress demanding paid sick days for all workers.

  • Say no to Fast Track

President Obama is negotiating a massive trade deal called the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) that could leave us with the short end of the stick, once again.

Right now, President Obama is pushing for Fast Track ? a procedural trick that allows trade deals negotiated behind closed doors to skirt oversight from Congress by forcing them into a ?yes? or ?no? vote.

Trade deals have become a tool for big corporations to rake in huge profits on the global scale. With backdoor negotiations, corporations have a chance to sneak major changes to regulatory systems that increase their profits.

Make your voice heard and tell President Obama: Stop pushing for Fast Track. Don?t bypass Congress when negotiating trade deals.

  • Stand with President Obama

The new Congress is forcing President Obama's hand by pushing through a bill to force the approval of the dangerous Keystone XL pipeline.

This week President Obama took a bold stand against the Keystone XL by threatening a veto of the bill.

The pipeline is all risk and no reward. We must ensure the pipeline is rejected.

It's more important now than ever to show support for President Obama and his veto threat. Let President Obama know that you have his back.

  • Protect Dodd-Frank

The new Congress is in session and the GOP is already pandering to their fat cat Wall Street friends.

Congress is only one day old, yet Republicans are trying to ram through a package of 11 bills to weaken Dodd-Frank?s financial protections.

Rep. Keith Ellison took to the House floor today to oppose nearly a dozen complex changes that would ease oversight of Wall Street firms, large banks, and multi-national corporations.

Show Rep. Ellison that you have his back. Sign the petition to oppose repealing Wall Street reforms.

  • Reverse Citizens United

The Koch Brothers reportedly spent $290 million dollars in 2014 and, unfortunately, their money was well spent. They protected the House and took over the Senate by buying their way into power.

We can?t have more disastrous results in 2016. Adding a Republican President to the GOP controlled House and Senate would be catastrophic for everyday Americans.

We must overturn Citizens United before 2016. We can?t let billionaires like the Koch Brothers buy another election. Sign our petition to end Citizen United?s harmful influence.

  • Workers deserve $15 per hour

Over 2.5 million hard working Americans work to provide care for the elderly and disabled, yet they often struggle to provide basic needs like food, clothing and rent for themselves and their families.

Home care jobs are among the fastest growing jobs in the country, but they?re also among the lowest paid.

Pay is so low that it relegates workers?especially women workers?to living in poverty, fueling inequality.

Stand with home care workers and low wage workers across the country. Add your name to our petition for a $15 per hour minimum wage and the right to join a union.

  • Don't pay for tax breaks on the backs of working families

Congress should prioritize passing tax legislation that helps the middle class and working Americans, not give handouts to large corporations and the wealthy.

A scathing report by Americans for Tax Fairness revealed that Wal-Mart uses tax breaks to dodge a whopping $1 billion annually in federal taxes.

Large corporations and the wealthy are using every trick in the book to dodge taxes while putting the burden on the backs of the middle class and working Americans.

We need tax policies that make large corporations and the wealthy pay their fair share. We need to invest in our economy to build an economy that works for all.

Tell Congress: Stop letting big corporations and the wealthy rob our economy dry. Don't pay for tax breaks on the backs of working families.

  • Write Your Representative to Vote ?No? on Fast Track Trade Authority

Your Representative Needs to Commit Today to Vote ?No? to Stop Fast Track for the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP)

The President is trying to bypass Congress to Fast Track a trade agreement currently being negotiated in secret by the United States and ten other countries. Don?t let them trade away our freedoms: speak out now.

If the Fast Track bill passes, the TPP could be signed before Congress votes. Then the deal could be railroaded through Congress with no amendments and limited debate.

We need our representatives to stand up for us by voting ?no? on Fast Track to stop the TPP from offshoring more jobs, jacking up medicine prices, and allowing corporations to sue us in international tribunals for enforcing standards for wages, job safety, and protection of our land, water and air that we?ve fought for in America for a century.

Congress must assert its constitutional authority over trade agreements to stop the TPP nightmare from becoming a reality.

Write your Senators now and urge them to help create a democracy that works for all of us, not just billionaires and big corporations.

  • Working on holidays

T-Mobile is now requiring their employees to work on Christmas Day and other major holidays.

Big businesses keep pushing out policies to maximize profits in every way possible, at the expense of workers? rights.

Big companies have to start thinking about their employees over profits. It is time for us to stand up with the workers of T-mobile and tell management it is not ok to mandate work on major holidays.

Tell T-Mobile: It?s not fair to require employees to work on Christmas. Eliminate your new requirement for employees to work on major holidays.

  • Joni Ernst: Cut ties with the Koch brothers

A recording from a secret Koch brothers-sponsored conference revealed Iowa Senate candidate Joni Ernst saying, "This group...really started my trajectory," when speaking about the hundreds of millionaires and billionaires in attendance at the American Courage: Our Commitment to a Free Society conference.

Joni continues to push her extreme agenda, thanks to the Koch brothers backing. Joni thinks there should be NO Federal minimum wage, wants to abolish the EPA, and thinks Paul Ryan?s budget isn?t conservative enough.

USAction and our affiliate, Iowa Citizen Action Network, are calling on Joni Ernst to cut ties to the Koch brothers and their extreme agenda. Sign our petition and we'll deliver it to Joni's campaign.

  • Support an agenda that works for women and families

Tomorrow is Women?s Equality Day. USAction and our allies across the country are calling for policies that work for women and families.

We need an economy that works for all of us, and that starts with pay equity for all, a higher minimum wage, and paid family and medical leave.

Join supporters across America and add your name to our petition for an agenda that works for women and families.

  • When Women Succeed, America Succeeds

One of the things that women, men and families need to succeed is the freedom to take a day off from work to care for themselves, a sick child or parent. Nobody should be forced to choose between their job and caring for their family.

Take action if you agree. Support Paid Family Medical Leave and help make sure our economy works for women and working families.

  • Expand Social Security, Don't Cut Our Benefits!

On its 79th birthday, Social Security is under attack.

Right wing politicians want to slash our earned benefits, raise the retirement age and hand Social Security over to Wall Street. And the Koch Brothers are buying elections to make it happen.

Tell Congress to keep their hands off our Social Security.

  • Democracy for All

The Koch Brothers and other corporate CEOs are buying our elections to advance the billionaires agenda and drown out the voice of ordinary voters.

In less than a month, the full Senate will take a historic vote on the Democracy for All amendment. The constitutional amendment would overturn Citizens United and restore the power to Congress and states to set commonsense limits on the influence of big money in our elections.

Sign our petition to the Senate to help create a democracy that works for all of us, not just billionaires and big corporations.

  • Stand With McDonald's Workers

Fast food giants have notoriously skirted labor laws by claiming they?re not responsible for how their franchises treat their workers. In a BIG victory last week, the National Labor Relations Board's (NLRB) general counsel announced that McDonald's is indeed a joint employer. This means that the company can now be held accountable for the substandard wages and working conditions it effectively controls.

McDonald's, which made $5.5 billion in profit last year, "has vowed to fight this," and these workers need our support.

Join Jobs With Justice and USAction to stand in solidarity with McDonald?s workers who are fighting for a brighter future and a voice in the workplace.

  • Toxic Chemicals: Workers deserve to know!

Finding out about toxic chemical exposure after the fact is too late.

SB 193 will make sure employers and workers are warned about a serious new or previously unrecognized health hazard posed by a toxic chemical Employers and workers deserve to know as quickly as possible about new dangers.

The Appropriations Committee will be considering SB 193 soon. Write Appropriations Committee Chair Mike Gatto and ask him to pass SB 193 immediately.

  • Tell Your Senator: Don?t Let Big Business Shortchange America!

More and more corporations are deciding to renounce their U.S. ?citizenship? for lower taxes abroad, leaving the rest of us to pick up the tab. Walgreens, America?s largest pharmacy chain, is the latest company to consider a ?tax inversion,? which allows U.S. companies to move their corporate address to tax havens like Switzerland.

It?s shocking, but these dodges are completely legal under our current tax code and cost our country billions. That?s why Senator Carl Levin has introduced legislation which would close corporate tax loopholes and keep American companies where they belong?in the United States.

Want to join the fight against corporate tax dodging? The Senate Finance Committee meets on Tuesday to debate this issue. Sign our petition, and tell your Senator to stand with American taxpayers.

  • Support Diplomacy, Not War, with Iran
  • Tell Congress to ground the F-35 forever

Congress continues to fund the most expensive weapons system in history, even though the F-35 warplane doesn't even work. Pentagon contractors like Lockheed Martin are profiting off the taxpayer's dime and funneling money into campaign coffers and lobbying.

They are rigging the system so the F-35 wins and working families lose as vital programs like food assistance, infrastructure repair and education are slashed again and again.

Tell Congress to ground the F-35 forever.

  • Stop Corporate Tax Dodgers

Walgreens, America's largest pharmacy chain, wants to change their corporate address to a tax haven to dodge billions in U.S. taxes.

And they're not the only one. Big Business wants all the advantages of operating in America. But it expects the rest of us to pick up the tab, even as it sees record profits.

Join Public Citizen and USAction to help stop huge corporations from setting up sham headquarters in tax havens to dodge their tax obligations here in America.

  • Pledge to Hold Walgreens Accountable

America's largest pharmacy chain wants to dodge billions in U.S. taxes by changing its corporate address to a tax haven. Walgreens wants to break up with America, dodge U.S. taxes and still get the benefits of everything we built together!

Walgreens doesn?t make $72 billion in revenue without customers. Or the $16.7 billion that came in last year from Medicare and Medicaid. Or without the roads and bridges to ship goods. Or the safety and security provided by local police and firefighters.

Join Americans for Tax Fairness and USAction by pledging to stop shopping at Walgreens if they change their corporate address to a tax haven.

  • An America that works for ALL of us, not just the wealthy

Today, working people and the middle class are getting squeezed, while the rich and big corporations get richer by gaming the system.

Join us to put our elected officials on notice that we will be voting on NOVEMBER 4th for an America that works for ALL OF US, and not just the wealthy and well-connected.

  • Pass the DISCLOSE Act

The American people deserve to know which corporations and billionaires are behind the toxic attack ads polluting our airwaves and reducing our voice in elections. Help force secret, unlimited election spending out of the shadows by supporting the DISCLOSE Act today.

Sign below and we'll deliver your signatures to the Senate.

  • Don't Bomb Iraq!

American bombs are not the answer to a crisis in need of a diplomatic solution. Your voice is critical to urge the President to make the right decision.

Act now to tell the President and Congress: No military action in Iraq, including air strikes.

  • Tell T-Mobile: Respect Workers' Rights!

Last week T-Mobile decided to vote against a proposal that would have brought T-Mobile?s intimidation of workers out of the shadows and provided a comprehensive report about labor rights violations to investors and consumers.

A huge part of building an economy that works for all of us is the right to form a union without intimidation.

Stand in solidarity with workers fighting for a union and a voice in the workplace. Sign the letter below to T-Mobile and its parent company Deutsche Telekom and we'll make sure they get your signature.

  • Rein in Wasteful Pentagon Spending

Pentagon contractors like Lockheed Martin rake in billions of profits every single year. Their campaign contributions and army of lobbyists influence Congress so they always win, while working people and families lose.

With the wars ending, it's time to invest in nation building at home and an America that works for all of us.

Tell Congress to fight for working people, not Pentagon contractors like Lockheed Martin and their millionaire CEOs.

  • Affordable College Education Now

We need to stop big banks from squeezing young adults for every penny they are worth. If we want to rebuild our middle class and grow our economy, students and working families need access to an affordable college education.

Right now we have the chance to pass meaningful reform to change how student loans work. Today the Senate votes on Elizabeth Warren?s Bank on Students Emergency Loan Refinancing Act that allows student loans to be refinanced just like a mortgage or car loan, all paid for by making millionaires and billionaires pay their fair share of taxes.

Join USAction in calling for affordable college education. We need a strong middle class and it starts with affordable higher education.

  • Pledge to vote for candidates that support women and families

This year we have an important choice. We have a chance to elect candidates who will truly support women and families.

We can elect candidates who support raising the minimum wage, equal pay for equal work, and paid family leave.

Sign the pledge to vote for candidates that support women and families

  • Support Strong Climate Regulations

President Obama?s administration announced proposed regulations that would cut carbon pollution from all existing power plants by 30% by 2030.

We applaud the President's bold action to clean up the way we power our country and the air we breathe.

The planet and our communities could not wait any longer. As Republicans scheme to obstruct all progress in sight, the President took executive action against climate disruption.

Stand with President Obama and EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy for taking a big step in curbing carbon pollution.

  • Stand up for voting rights

It?s time to stand up for voting rights.

Earlier this year, the Voting Rights Amendment Act of 2014 was introduced in both the House and Senate to restore and update crucial protections for voters before the November elections.

We?ve reached a critical point in the fight to protect voting rights. If we don?t act now, many Americans will head to the polls without protections that ensure their right to vote this November.

Tell your Member of Congress to demand a hearing and a vote.

  • End the War in Afghanistan

The President announced plans to extend the war in Afghanistan, leaving 9,800 U.S. troops in 2015, followed by reductions and an end to America's longest war in 2016.

After nearly 13 years of war, it's time to bring our troops home from Afghanistan.

Write the President and Congress now.

  • Stand with Working Women and Families!
It?s tougher than ever for working people to afford the basics and get ahead. But together, we can create an America that works for all of us, not just the wealthy few and huge corporations.

Sign here to stand with working people and support these four commonsense steps to help people care for and support our families:

  • Rein in Wasteful Pentagon Spending

The American people deserve a responsible Pentagon budget that keeps America safe and allows us to invest in an economy that works for all of us.

With the wars ending, it's time to rein in wasteful Pentagon spending and invest in nation building at home.

Write your Representative as they consider the National Defense Authorization Act of 2015.

  • A Democracy that Works for ALL of Us

HUGE news! Today Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid announced support for a constitutional amendment to reverse disastrous Supreme Court decisions on money in politics.

In the Citizens United vs FEC and McCutcheon vs FEC rulings, the corporate wing of the Supreme Court reduced our voice to empower huge corporations and billionaires like the Koch brothers to flood even more money into our elections. Passing a constitutional amendment will not be easy so we need to respond quickly and build on this momentum to build a democracy that works for all of us.

Sign here and we?ll deliver your signature to the Senate in advance of the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on June 3rd.

  • Save the Voting Rights Act

For 40 years, the Voting Rights Act protected minorities against discrimination at the polls. Last year, the Supreme Court handed down a shameful decision in the case of Shelby County v. Holder that decimated the Voting Rights Act.

In November, many Americans will head to the polls without crucial protections that ensure their right to vote.

We must protect the right to vote for all Americans.

Take action to help pass the Voting Rights Amendment Act of 2014.

  • Tell the Senate to Raise the Wage!

Working families and the middle-class are the engines of our economy. Increasing the minimum wage raises wages for millions of Americans, boosts the economy and builds stronger communities.

The Senate votes tomorrow! Write your Senators below and tell them to support working families, not huge corporations and their millionaire CEO's.

  • Petition for a Constitutional Amendment to Overturn the U.S. Supreme Court?s Anti-Democratic McCutcheon v. FEC and Citizens United v. FEC Rulings

The U.S. Supreme Court has handed down another outrageous ruling giving CEOs, billionaires and Big Business even more power to sway our elections.

The ruling in McCutcheon v. Federal Election Commission means the super-rich can dole out up to $5.9 million ? the limit had been $123,000 ? per election cycle to political candidates and parties.

This wildly anti-democratic ruling compounds the court?s 2010 Citizens United debacle, which permitted corporations to spend literally as much as they want trying to tilt elections toward candidates who will serve as their puppets.

Add your name below to join the call for a constitutional amendment overturning Citizens United, McCutcheon and related cases.

More than two million jobless workers and their families are struggling without vital jobless benefits because of Republican obstruction.

Democrats have compromised to GOP demands again and again as thousands more families lose benefits every single week. Now that the Senate has passed a compromise, it's time for Republican leadership to end the obstruction and immediately allow the House to pass the Senate's bipartisan measure.

Sign our petition calling on Speaker Boehner to renew unemployment insurance benefits now!

  • End Corporate Tax Loopholes

While you are diligently preparing your taxes, big corporations are stashing cash in overseas tax havens to avoid paying their fair share.

Last year alone, big corporations stashed $206 billion in profits in offshore accounts. Adding to the $1.95 trillion already sitting in places like the Cayman Islands, Switzerland, and Bermuda.

It?s time for big corporations to invest in our communities instead of stashing cash overseas.

Tell Congress: Stop letting big corporations rob our economy dry. End corporate tax loopholes now.

  • Happy Meals, low wages, and pay theft?

Recently McDonald?s came under fire, yet again, for how they treat their workers. On top of paying low wages, they?ve been accused of stealing wages across the country.

Workers across the country are taking the billion dollar burger chain to court for stealing wages from paychecks, denying breaks, cutting overtime pay, and forcing workers to work off the clock.

These wages could mean the difference for workers and their families, yet McDonald?s seems to brush it aside as standard business practices.

Tell McDonalds: It?s time to put an end to wage theft and pay every worker what they deserve. Every worker deserves to make a living wage.

  • Eliminate the Pentagon's war slush fund

The American people deserve to know what the Pentagon is doing with our tax dollars.

An explosive new National Priorities Project report highlights how the Pentagon is using budget gimmicks to avoid transparency and accountability.

Tell Congress to eliminate the Pentagon's war slush fund.

  • End Taxpayer Subsidies to Big Oil

While the fossil fuel industry rakes in massive profits, our communities get coal ash, oil and tar sands spills, tainted water, and a worse planet for our children. We need to invest in a clean energy future and environmental policies that work for all of us, not just huge corporations.

We support President Obama's push to end $4 billion in taxpayer handouts to the fossil fuel industry, but we can do better.

Tell Congress to end billions in taxpayer subsidies going to oil, gas, and coal every single year.

  • Raise the Minimum Wage!

As corporate profits and Wall Street bonuses are going through the roof, millions of workers are struggling to get by in low wage jobs that don't allow families to meet the basics. Many workers are living on less than $300 a week. We can do better.

Raising the minimum wage not only will make our working and middle-class families more financially secure, it gives a much-needed boost to our recovering economy.

If you believe that our nation's hard-working men and women deserve a raise, add your name to the growing list of supporters across the country. Demand immediate action on raising the minimum wage?

  • Jolly's World
Republican candidate David Jolly thinks that women are worth less than men. He lobbied for a conservative millionaire to oppose the Paycheck Fairness Act. We think women deserve equal pay for equal work. Period.
  • Support the FAMILY Act Today

Take action if you agree. Support Paid Family Medical Leave and help make sure our economy works for women and working families.

Late last year Republicans in Congress shut down federal unemployment insurance benefits for the long-term unemployed, causing more than 2 million Americans to lose a critical lifeline.

The Senate will vote to renew UI again next week, but it won't pass unless we make our voices heard.

Tell Congress to renew unemployment insurance now.?

  • Support Diplomacy With Iran. No New Sanctions!

Nearly 60 Senators, including 16 Democrats, are working to undermine President Obama, sabotage diplomatic negotiations and make war with Iran more likely by passing new sanctions.

We?re fighting back and momentum is building to give diplomacy a chance. In just the past few days, the President has threatened a veto and news broke yesterday that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid would delay a vote and allow diplomacy time to work.

If we want to stop another costly, unnecessary war in the Middle East, we have to keep up the pressure.

Sign the petition below and tell the Senate to oppose new Iran sanctions and let diplomacy with Iran work.

Republicans in Congress shut down federal unemployment insurance benefits for the long-term unemployed at the end of 2013, causing millions of Americans to lose a critical lifeline.

Democrats have compromised to GOP demands again and again. But the GOP war on workers knows no shame -- in the middle of winter, they continue to block a majority vote to extend crucial jobless benefits to millions of families.

  • Tell Congress: Don't cut Social Security and Medicare to pay for more Pentagon waste

Pentagon WasteWhat do Republicans love more than cutting Social Security and Medicare? Contributing more to the Pentagon's bloated budget of course!

So it's no surprise that yesterday, Republicans in the House introduced a new bill titled the Provide for the Common Defense Act. If passed into law, it would cut Social Security and Medicare in exchange for padding the pockets of defense contractors and their lobbyist friends.

The Tea Party really showed where their priorities lie with this one -- and it's not with our seniors. Join us as we tell Congress to vote NO on the Provide for the Common Defense Act.

For years, Republicans have been intent on cutting Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid benefits -- while at the same time, medical costs have skyrocketed and savings and pensions have all but disappeared for our seniors.

We believe that all Americans deserve to retire with dignity. That's why we've long supported strengthening Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.

Through these programs and the Medicaid, as party of the Affordable Care Act, we have been able to lift millions out of poverty and provide health and retirement security for millions of seniors and disabled Americans.

With a track record like this, we should be expanding our social safety net, not cutting it.

Tell Congress: Expand Social Security and Medicare, don't cut them!

  • Tell Congress: Give Diplomacy a Chance!

Just before midnight on Saturday Night, the President announced to the nation that the United States and five other world powers brokered a deal with Iran to curb Tehran's nuclear program.

This agreement is just the first step towards a more far-reaching deal, but an important one if we are ever to have lasting peace with Iran.

But leave it to the war hawks in Congress, who are already trying to derail this process.

Tell Congress: Allow diplomacy to work. Don't approve any more sanctions that would derail the peace process with Iran.

  • Thank Senate Dems for standing up to GOP obstruction!

For far too long, Senate Republicans have been obstructing President Obama's agenda and blocking nominations at levels unprecedented in history.

But just hours ago, in a huge victory for the American people, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Senate Democrats reformed the filibuster and stopped GOP obstruction in its tracks.

Allowing most presidential nominations to be confirmed by a simple majority vote is an important step towards getting Washington back to work.

Now join us as we thank Sen. Harry Reid and Senate Democrats who stood up to Mitch McConnell and the extreme politics of the GOP.

  • Rein in Wasteful Pentagon Spending

An explosive new Reuters report reveals a pervasive culture of cooking the books at the Pentagon. Where in cases of lost or missing information, accountants were told by their superiors to insert phony numbers in order to make the Navy's totals match the Treasury's.

With the massive amounts of waste and abuse described in this report, it is appalling that there are still those in Congress who are fighting to stop the sequester for the Pentagon, and instead wish to cut programs that American's livelihoods depend on -- like Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.

Join USAction as we call on the House-Senate conference committee to rein in the waste and abuse of the Pentagon instead of cutting Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.

  • Expand Social Security and Medicare, don't cut them!

For years, Republicans have been intent on cutting Social Security and Medicare benefits -- while at the same time, medical costs have skyrocketed and savings and pensions have all but disappeared for our seniors.

We believe that all Americans deserve to retire with dignity. That's why we've long supported strengthening Social Security and Medicare.

Through these programs, we have been able to lift millions out of poverty and provide health and retirement security for millions of seniors and disabled Americans.

With a track record like this, we should be expanding our social safety net, not cutting it.

Tell Congress: Expand Social Security and Medicare, don't cut them!

  • Support the Stop Tax Haven Abuse Act

We lose $90 billion each year when big corporations dodge their taxes by stashing profits offshore, in low- or no-tax countries.

Sen. Carl Levin's Stop Tax Haven Abuse Act would close up these loopholes.

Join Campaign for America's Future and USAction and say you'll sign on as a citizen co-sponsor of the bill - and help make sure it passes.

  • Tell Your Senators: Vote for ENDA

Is it fair that because of who you love, you could lose your job? Or not even be hired at all?

The Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) is legislation proposed in Congress that would outlaw discrimination in hiring and employment on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity. This bill will come up for a vote in the Senate on Monday.

Please contact your Senators now and thank them for their support OR ask them to do the right thing.

  • Stop the Next Citizens United

Sen. Mitch McConnell has urged the U.S. Supreme Court to throw out contribution limits, something that would put a ?For Sale? sign on the front yard of the U.S. Capitol.

On October 8th, his lawyer presented that view directly to the Court during oral arguments in McCutcheon v. FEC. The outcome of this case will determine if a "super limit" of $117,000 on large donors will remain the law of the land.

Our elections shouldn't simply be a conversation between wealthy Republicans and wealthy Democrats. We deserve a government of, by, and for the people -- not bought and paid for by special interests.

Watch the new ad by USAction and Public Campaign Action that is hitting the airwaves in Kentucky. Then, tell Sen. McConnell: stand up for everyday people, not for big campaign donors.

  • End Big Oil Subsidies

    End Big Oil Handouts

The oil industry profited more than $100 billion last year, making it the most lucrative industry on the planet. So why on earth are we continuing to subsidize dirty Big Oil with $4.6 billion in subsidies every year, while simultaneously cutting that same amount for programs that preserve the environment?

It's time to stop subsidizing the technology of the last century, so that we can begin investing in new, renewable and more environmentally friendly technology that will shape the 21st century and create new jobs right here in America.

Sign our petition to Congress: Don't cut important environmental programs that protect our planet. End the billions in wasteful subsidies we give to Big Oil each year instead.

  • Defund the F-35 fighter jet now.
    No F-35
See this image larger and read Vanity Fair's scathing review here.

** UPDATE Vanity Fair has Written a scathing new article on the F-35 and why it's a huge waste of money. Read it here, then come back and sign on in support of the campaign to end the F-35 for good.**

As working families and communities struggle to get by in this economy, Republicans continue to fight for cuts to Food Stamps, Social Security, Obamacare and other vital programs, while ignoring contractor abuse and wasteful spending at the Pentagon.

Pentagon contractors and their high-priced CEOs and lobbyists are working around the clock to save the F-35. And at $1.5 trillion the F-35 program costs more than the entire sequester for both domestic and Pentagon spending combined.

Outrageous. Sign the petition now calling on Congress to defund the F-35 fighter jet.

  • End Special Tax Breaks for Big Corporations!

Buffett RuleEarlier this year we saw extremist Republicans who were willing to shut down the government and threaten an economic crisis in order to deny health care to millions of Americans.

In the 11th hour, Speaker of the House John Boehner caved and Congress voted for a short-term fix to this manufactured crisis. But the GOP?s reckless obsession with denying health care to millions and cutting Social Security, Medicare and other vital programs like food stamps and Head Start will lead us to another fight in just a few short weeks.

We should be investing in jobs and prosperity for all, not slashing vital programs that serve millions of children, seniors and families in order to protect tax breaks for big corporations and the ultra-rich.

Tell Congress: Stop the cuts to our communities. End special tax breaks for big corporations and the ultra-rich and invest in vital services and regulations, jobs and prosperity for all.

  • Stand up for voting rights for all
    Protect Voting Rights

In June, the Supreme Court struck down 40 years of voting rights protections by gutting the Voting Rights Act in the case of Shelby County v. Holder. This is a major setback for voting rights and will have a real and detrimental impact on voters.

This past election has made it abundantly clear that we need MORE voting rights protections, not less. Which is why this ruling is especially devastating.

We need to respond TODAY. Reps. Mark Pocan (D-WI) and Keith Ellison (D-MN) introduced a bill to support a constitutional amendment explicitly guaranteeing the right to vote. Sign our petition now supporting the National Right to Vote Amendment.

  • Tell the Senate: Support Background Checks now!
    Remember Newtown

Update: Even though this measure was defeated in the Senate, it could be brought up for a vote again later this year. That's why it's so important you contact your Senators and let them know where you stand.

After months of GOP obstruction, there has been a breakthrough in negotiations on gun control -- and the Senate just voted to proceed with debate on gun control after defeating the Republican Filibuster.

But this is just the beginning, and there are still more critical votes in the next few days to get this bill passed.

This is a big deal and your urgent action is needed! Contact your Senator now and demand background checks for all gun sales.

Requiring background checks on all firearms purchases is a common sense solution to the thousands that are senselessly killed by gun violence every year. But right now only 6 states require background checks at gun shows!

Tell your Senator to support background checks now!

  • Build a Better Budget

Now that you've built your better budget (http://www.buildabetterbudget.org/), send it to Congress to show the politicians how Americans want to prioritize taxes and spending. If we let Congress set the priorities without our input, the federal budget will serve the needs of lobbyists and politically powerful corporations, and not you and me.

Send your better budget to Congress now.
